Will Your Vote Count?
As of November 6, 2006, across the country,
20% of voters have already cast their vote in states that allow early voting.
And there are already reports of problems.
See www.democracynow.org for 11/6/06.
In case you experience trouble voting, Yes! magazine recommends the following:
Call two nationwide networks to report problems:
One is
1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683),
which will have volunteer lawyers in 15 locations standing by to provide
assistance.
The other is
1-866 My Vote-1 (1-866-698-6831),
which will record your problem by voicemail, then forward your call to your
local board of elections.
Both will
enter the information you provide into a database to use
to support challenges to problem elections now and demands for reform in the
future.
October 10, 2006
The Illinois Green Party successfully navigated the tough Illinois ballot
access laws and
will have candidates on the ballot for the six state constitutional offices:
For Governor, Rich Whitney, of Carbondale
For Lieutenant Governor, Julie Samuels, of Oak Park
For Attorney General, David Black, of Rockford
For Secretary of State, Erika Schafer, of Peoria
For Treasurer, Dan Rodriguez-Schlorff, of Chicago
For Comptroller, Alicia Snyder, of Centralia
The two major party candidates apparently are afraid to debate
Mr. Whitney,
because they have come up with a myriad of excuses to avoid scheduling debates.
The two major party candidates promised a series of 12 debates leading to the
November 7 election,
but they have had only one (at Millikin University in Decatur), and
that really wasn't a debate and they refused to allow Mr. Whitney to join them.

July 2006
The BIG news, of course, is that for the first time,
the Illinois Green Party filed its petition to nominate
a statewide slate of the six constitutional officers:
Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer,
and Comptroller.
The Democrats have challenged the petition, but the ILGP is confident that its
candidate will be on the November 2006 ballot.
April 2005
Illinois Green Party candidates experienced election successes in the April 2005 Consolidated Election.
