PLAYOFFS!

8/22
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Our offense let us down again.
We had high expectations after finishing the season with two double-header sweeps.
After averaging 15 runs per game during the regular season
and 19 per game for those last two double-headers,
we managed only 10 and 6 in our two playoff games.
Two of our better offensive players were absent:
Scott couldn't play because of injury and Dave was out of town
BUT CONGRATULATIONS DAVE AND AMY
Ed says we have to play three more years, until he turns 60,
or until he hits a home run, whichever comes first.
Mike and Greg and Ed came so close, they're a sure thing for at least one more year.
As long as we have the DeMarini.

Don was 2 for 3
Greg was 3 for 3

Special thanks and credit to these players for showing up:
Matt and Jon T. didn't miss a game (but they really cut it close sometimes).
Greg and Mike only missed one game.
John P. and Ed only missed two games.

Finally, a big round of applause for
the team's heart and soul
(and leadoff man) (and sponsor)
Reid Sipe

We all thank you, Reid, for another very enjoyable summer of softball
_______________________________________

On 8/15, we lost a tough-luck game to the U-Dogs,
whom we defeated twice three nights earlier,
and whom we tied with in the regular season standings.
THE BOTTOM LINE:  We got 10 walks but not enough timely hits.
16 runners left on base!!!!!!!!!!
We left 2 or 3 runners on base in every inning!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(And we didn't hit the cutoff man.)

Reid 3-4, W, R
John T 2-3, W, R
Tim 2-3, W, R

ON 7/25, RED BULL FINALLY WON A DOUBLE-HEADER, TO REACH THE .5O0 MARK!!
AND WHAT A NIGHT--TWO VICTORIES BY THE 12-RUN RULE!!

The whole team played well, obviously.
The outfield played flawlessly.
Matt had a couple of awesome catches in left field, and
John T. made several good catches, also.
Offensively, the stars were:

1st game:                                                                                 2nd game:
Reid 4-4, 4 R                                                                              Reid 3-3, 3 R
Vito 2-2, 2 BB, 3 R                                                                      Vito 2-3, R
John T 2-4, 2 R (3-R HR, 1st inn.)                                                Matt 3-3
Ed 2-3                                                                                        Scott 2-3, 3 R (3R HR, 4th inn.)
John P 2-3                                                                                  Dave 3-3
Ken 2-3, 3 R                                                                               Ed 2-3
Mike 2-3, 3 R                                                                              Tim 2-3
                                                                                                  Ken 2-3
                                                                                                  Greg 1-1, BB, 2 R

MIKE'S PITCHING HAS BEEN OUTSTANDING ALL SEASON,
AND ESPECIALLY HOLDING THE FIRST-PLACE TEAM TO ONLY 6 RUNS.

AND ON 8/12, WE MADE IT 4 IN A ROW!!  ANOTHER DOUBLEHEADER VICTORY!!
THE SECOND GAME WENT INTO EXTRA INNINGS
AND AFTER THE OPPONENTS SCORED 2 RUNS IN THE TOP OF THE 8TH,
WE SCORED 3 RUNS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH TO WIN.
MIKE, KEN, BLAKE, AND TIM GOT ON SAFELY,
AND AFTER A FIELDER'S CHOICE,
PLAYER/MANAGER GREG WON THE GAME WITH HIS SAC FLY.

Offensive heroes:
Game 1:  Reid 3-4, Blake 3-4, Greg 2-2 (HR), Brian, Ed
Game 2:  Reid 5-5, Ed, Mike 5-5, Tim

For anyone not following this, Reid was 7 for 7 the last doubleheader and 8 for 9 this doubleheader!
