OUR SEASON STARTED WEDNESDAY MAY 15

Game # 1 - May 15, 2002 - W

SUCCESS!!
BACARDI BATS  22
FLOGGERS        20

Where to start?  The whole team played well.  Everyone reached base safely at least twice.

Greg - 4 hits (with all that running, he was sore)
Matt - 3 hits, a ROE, 3 RBI, 5 R! (His being so young, I doubt his legs were sore)
Scott - on base safely 5 times, a homer, 3 RBI
    John T. - 3 hits, 2 homers, 5 RBI
Patrick (his first year with us) - 4 hits, a ROE, a homer, 4 RBI
Rick (his first year with us) - 3 hits and excellent left field
John P. - 3 hits and, as always, steady left center field

Game # 2 - May 29, 2002 - W

This double-header victory was especially satisfying--
it was against the two teams we lost to five nights ago!!
These were exciting games.

In the first game,
we scored 3 in the top of the eighth to go ahead 9 to 6, and then we held on for the win.

In the second game,
Scott's solo HR in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at 4,
and in the bottom of the seventh, Mark led off with a single,
then Jared singled, and Reid's hit brought Mark home with the winning run!

Mark was the man - 6 hits on the night, 3 RBI
Scott - 4 hits, 3 RBI
Matt - 4 hits
John T. - 4 hits
Vito - 3 hits
Jared - 3 hits

Jared made several outstanding plays at second base,
including a running over-the-shoulder catch, turn, and throw to home,
where Bob scooped a short hop to double up a runner trying to score.
End of inning.
Awesome.

Game # 7 - June 12, 2002 - W

Three in a row!!!
And a tie for first place at 5 and 2.

BACARDI  BATS  19
FLOGGERS        17

If the scorebook is right,
Matt hit for the cycle and had 6 RBIs!!

Games # 8 and 9 - June 19, 2002 - W

The first game was a win by forfeit--F.O.P. #241 didn't have enough players.

We lost the second game 15 to 14.

After recovering from an early 9 to 1 deficit, we rallied and even took a brief lead.
The highlight was Reid's three-run triple.
We then fell behind again. Our last-ditch rally fell short.
(Yours truly left the tying and winning runs in scoring position.  Ouch!)

Game #10 - July 3, 2002

BACARDI BATS  23
F.O.P. #241         6

We certainly took advantage of our opponent having only 9 players.
We jumped out ot a 9 to 2 first-inning lead and never looked back.
All the Bacardi Bats had at least one hit and scored at least once.
John P. and Vito had 4 hits and 4 runs each,
Rick (hobbled knee and all) had 5 RBIs,
Jared had 4 RBIs, and Matt, John P. and Vito had 3 RBIs.

Game # 11 - July 10, 2002 - W

HITCHIN' POST  22
BACARDI BATS  11

We dug ourselves a 9 to 0 hole and couldn't catch up.
Now we're 7 and 4.

Game #12 - July 24, 2002 - W

BACARDI BATS  14
F.O.P. #241         14
It wasn't until the next morning when I looked at the scorebook that I saw the real reason we didn't win--
13 runners left on base!!
Matt was great at the plate--5 for 5.
Ed had 3 hits.
Greg had 3 hits, including a leadoff triple in the top of the 7th and scoring the go-ahead run.

We're 7 (wins) and 4 (losses) and 1 (tie)

Games #13 & 14 - July 31, 2002 - W

A familiar refrain--13 left on base and many throwing errors.
The stars on offense:  Jared was 3 for 3 and Bob was 2 for 2 with a walk.

BACARDI BATS      2

We only had 7 hits.
The highlights:  We scored our 2 runs in the first on Matt's 3B & John T.'s HR
Later, from left field, Matt made a beautiful throw to nail a runner at the plate.

It's been a while since we had a good game at bat.
This was our highest score this season.
Our first seven batters scored.
Jared was 5 for 5 with 4 RBIs,
Reid was 3 for 4 with 6 RBIs,
Rick, Ed, Blake, and Greg each had three hits,
Mark was 2 for 2, and John had 3 RBIs.
Bob Herr played his last game before heading back to school.
